Breast is Best, but what is
best for Nipples?
There is no denying that breastfeeding is great, great for mum
and great for baby. According to the NHS breastfed babies are less likely to
become obese and therefore develop type 2 diabetes and other illnesses later in
life plus they have less chance of developing eczema . Whilst benefits for mum
include a lower risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer, plus the not to be
sniffed at burning of an extra 500 calories a day!
However, breastfeeding isn’t all joy, nipple soreness is one of
the most common reasons new mothers give for discontinuing breastfeeding, often
during the first week of nursing (breastfeedingbasics.com). This is quite
unfortunate, not least because nipple soreness is almost always a short-term
problem, and can usually be righted in a matter of days. Applying a topical balm
or lotion to the nipple area will help speed up the body’s natural rate of
repair.
A natural and organic solution for the pain of
sore nipples is Green People’s Organic
Babies Mum & Baby Rescue Balm which has been developed to provide relief
from the pain of sore nipples. Rescue Balm doesn’t need to be washed off the
nipples in fact over-washing of the nipple area results in a loss of the natural
lubricants and antibacterial properties that protect it. Rescue Balm can be
safely ingested by baby; unlike some other products which may be toxic to baby,
needing to be washed off prior to nursing.
