Some babies go through the teething process with very little complaint. In fact, the first sign their parents get about the fact they have started teething is the partially-erupted tooth shining through their gums.

Unfortunately, teething isn’t a trouble-free process for most babies, as it can be quite a painful experience. The gums often become reddened and swollen as the tooth pushes against them. This can be a cause of discomfort when it comes to eating or drinking, as sucking can hurt the gums, and the baby may feed inconsistently.

Other signs of teething include flushed cheeks and heavy dribbling. The increased dribbling can cause baby’s chin to become reddened and sore, but this can be helped by the use of a barrier cream such as the Organic Babies Soothe & Calm Baby Balm.

The process of teething can be a long and uncomfortable one for the baby, who will tend to be restless and irritable, cry at night and have generally interrupted sleep. Tiredness will then take its toll, adding to the baby’s crankiness.
