What is Nappy Rash
If your baby’s bottom becomes inflamed, red, chapped and sore, it can cause a bit of an upset. Your baby becomes uncomfortable, irritable and very unhappy. These are common symptoms of nappy rash.
It is rare a baby can go for 2-3 years wearing nappies and not get nappy rash, but some babies are more prone than others. If your baby has dry skin then this can cause less resistance and more vulnerability.
Causes of Nappy Rash
Wetness from your baby’s loose bowel movements and frequent stale urine turns into ammonia. Even absorbent nappies still hold some moisture next to your baby’s skin. This becomes warm, moist and susceptible to nappy rash.
Friction or chafing from the nappy between your baby’s buttocks and around the genital area can cause soreness to delicate skin. Rough handling when washing or applying cream to your baby’s bottom also can lead to sore rashes.
Chemicals from harsh perfumed soaps, toiletries, creams and lotions can cause irritation and strip your baby’s skin of its natural protection. Green People recommend that you use pure natural alternative products and have a range recommended by midwives. View complete Organic Babies range
